iPhone Storage Options – Choosing Between 64GB to 1TB
Hello there! We are here again to give you a little chit-chat on storage. I know we’ve done that before, but yeah, that was for the iPhone SE series. In today’s talk, we are going to be discussing the flagship series. But first of all, we would love to know the storage option you would love to opt for, starting from 64GB to 1TB.
Can you comfortably choose that based on what you may want to do with the phone or your phone-ing habit? If you don’t know how to, stick around as I will be teaching you how to choose that and why you need to choose that. Also, if you already know how to, then it is just going to be a bonus for you.
Why do you need to know how to choose the right storage option?
64GB? That sounds a bit too much, but not too much, right? Although the iPhone flagship models don’t have a storage option lower than 64GB, it is quite a huge storage option for some people.
Take, for instance, a midschooler who is between the ages of 11 to 14 may find 64GB sufficient because he/she is a casual gamer, a social media enthusiast, a few photos and videos freak, or just does music streaming.
However, if the midschooler takes a lot of high-quality photos and videos, downloads many apps, games, or movies, stores a large music library, or uses their phone for school projects or creative activities (e.g., video editing), then 64GB might be too limited, and a higher storage capacity (128GB or more) might be more suitable.
I would have said that 64GB is very perfect for midschoolers that age, but kids these days do unbelievable things.
In contrast, this applies to anyone else. Before you even go to the store to purchase a phone, the first question should be: What exactly would I be using this phone for? Check your lifestyle. Do you love to sleep and wake in game apps? Are you a heavy photographer or videographer?
If you are a can’t-do-without-a-movie type like me, then you should probably go for something higher. Now, here are the storage options available in the iPhone flagship series and what they can handle.
Storage options available on the iPhone flagship models
64GB – For the casual users
So here’s the thing: the iOS operating system, pre-installed apps, and other essentials take up about 6GB of the phone’s storage, leaving you with only 58GB of usable space. That space wouldn’t even be enough for your movies and games alone unless you are a casual cell phone user who takes calls, texts, browses social media, messages friends and family, snaps photos sometimes, and deletes some to free up space, etc. You can’t do more than:
- 3,500 photos (assuming 10MB per photo)
- 300 songs (assuming 4-5MB per song)
- About 20 apps and games (200MB per app/game)
- 5 videos (assuming 100-200MB per video) and 50 documents (assuming 1-2MB per document)
128GB – For the moderate users
People who use this storage option are just in between. You may not be a hardliner who goes all out with a smartphone, but I assure you that this option is very fine for what you want. You will take what you want and still be a gamer and a movie freak comfortably. When you travel or go on a vacation, you can take as many quality photos as you like. With around 117GB of space still left for you, you can be sure of space enough to contain at least:
- 7,000 photos
- 600 songs
- 40 apps and games
- 15 videos and 200 documents
256GB – For the heavy users
This option is mainly for people who own businesses online and who display a lot of their products via images or videos online. Also, for minimal content creators who don’t have a lot going online yet. The 237GB left will be enough to save up pictures and videos even without deleting them. For those who are into video editing, it would just be enough for whatever you need to create. There is enough storage for:
- 12,000 photos
- 1,000 songs
- 70 apps and games
- 30 videos and 400 documents
512GB – For the power users
The 512GB storage option is the big 256GB, so whatever the 256GB can do, 512GB can do twice that. Full-time content creators will appreciate this a lot. Data analysts, software engineers, and others who deal with large file sizes will find the 476GB of usable space quite ample. It can house:
- 24,000 photos
- 2,000 songs
- 140 apps and games
- 60 videos and 800 documents
1TB – For the extremists
The 942GB of usable space is suitable for large file users like musicians, producers, researchers, scientists, graphic designers, and professional photographers. It can contain:
- 47,000 photos
- 4,000 songs
- 280 apps and games
- 120 videos and 1,600 documents
Tips on how to choose
- Assess your usage.
- Consider your file types.
- Think about your apps.
- Budget and cost (higher storage sizes are often expensive).
- Choose a size that will last you for the next 2-3 years.
Bottom Line
In summary, when choosing the right storage option for your iPhone flagship model, consider your usage, file types, apps, and budget. 64GB is suitable for casual users, 128GB is for moderate users, 256GB is for heavy users, 512GB is for power users, and 1TB is for extreme users. Choose a size that will last you for the next few years and consider your needs before making a decision.
